By Chris Chandler - Coach, Lady Shooters 11U Team This is an update to the many people who have had an interest and an impact on the 11U Lady Shooters. I thought you might like to know how they did in the National Championships. We earned an invitaition to the Nationals by winning the Georgia YBOA American Division Championship. There was no American Division at Nationals, so we played in the National division. The girls faced a difficult task, having only one substitute player available, being the only 11U team to play back to back games, and having the eventual National Champions in their pool. Bracket play drew last year's National Champions. We played this year's champs (the Norfolk Virginia Express) in a close pool play game through 3 quarters, being only 3 points behind. They pressed us until the very end, trying to cover the 15 point spread. In our bracket game against last year's champs (North Carolina Lady Heat), we tied the game at 22 late in the 3rd quarter, before losing 2 players to fouls and finishing the game with only 4. Again, this championship team had to press our 4 players until the end to win. This is maybe the best indicator as to how far these girls have come; the NC Lady Heat beat us by 33 in 2005 in Asheville. This year, we closed the gap. We scored 44 points in one victory, for the 5th highest point total in the entire 11U tournament (77 games), then 40 in another blowout win. We beat a team from Charleston, SC in a close one, before being eliminated by the Lady Mustangs of Texas. We finished tied for 9th out of 22 teams that were invited. In the skills competition, our girls did very well. Hannah Hunter was the Free Throw Champion, hitting 80%. Morgan Darby finished 3rd in Hot Shots, and Hannah Murphy finished 3rd in 3 point shooting. In team shooting, Aly Chandler, Morgan Darby, Hannah Murphy, Megan Summers and Mary Kellan Carr tied for 3rd as well. No other team came close to being so well represented. Below is a summary of their last 2 seasons, including this summer's activities. While I may have missed a few individual efforts, this is an indicator of just how hard these girls have worked: 2006 Lady Shooters Mary Kellan Carr, Aly Chandler, Morgan Darby, Megan Denney, Katie Ezell, Emma Hofmeister, Hannah Hunter, Hannah Murphy, Megan Summers YBOA State of Ga.
